COVID-19 Traffic Lights Change

From 11:59pm tonight, 30 December, all areas of New Zealand that are currently in Red will move to Orange, with the exception of Northland. These settings will be reviewed on the week of 17 January 2022.

The following areas will move to Orange:
🟠 Auckland
🟠 Taupō and Rotorua Lakes Districts
🟠 Kawerau, Whakatane, Ōpōtiki Districts
🟠 Gisborne District
🟠 Wairoa District
🟠 Rangitikei, Whanganui and Ruapehu Districts

🟠The whole of the South Island remains in orange
🔴 Northland remains in red

For people with a vaccine pass, life at Orange is almost the same as at Green (level 1), meaning that vaccinated New Zealanders can get back to doing the things they love.

COVID-19 Omicron has Arrived

270155115_228130166171675_2457460946592590213_n
A border-related case of Omicron was briefly active in Auckland CBD on 26 and 27 December. People in the Auckland CBD on these days should check locations of interest on the Ministry of Health website, and follow advice if they are a contact.

The case is a recent international arrival who returned a positive result on day nine of their self-isolation period. They had previously returned three negative tests while completing 7 days of managed isolation at a facility in Auckland. The case is fully vaccinated with a mRNA vaccine. He left MIQ before he got his test result back.

No other COVID-19 infections have been identified from the individual’s flight. Investigations are underway as to the source of the infection.

A number of close contacts have been identified and those tested have returned negative results. They are currently isolating. Public Health are identifying and contacting all other known close contacts, and ensuring they also isolate and get tested.

With Omicron’s transmissibility, it was a matter of when not if it would arrive. The system has kicked into gear quickly to minimise risk as much as possible.

Our current border settings mean many cases of Omicron coming to the country will be identified in MIQ. These settings remain in place to minimise any further community exposure to Omicron from the border and provide the time needed to understand the variant and take the necessary steps to protect New Zealand.

The great race on Mount Panorama is finally here.
Usually held in October, the Bathurst 1000 has been pushed back a couple of months due to the effect Covid-19 has had on the Supercars schedule.

Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen has already secured his second Supercars championship, but he’ll be looking to end the year on a high, while his Red Bull teammate Jamie Whincup is desperate for one last triumph at the iconic Mount Panorama circuit before he retires.

Chaz Mostert will start from pole position for Bathurst 1000 after breaking the lap record during Saturday’s Top 10 Shootout. Mostert drove his Walkinshaw Andretti United Holden Commodore ZB around the Mount Panorama circuit in 2:03.373 seconds to beat the previous fastest lap time of 2:03.481sec set by Scott McLaughlin in 2019.
